This semester, we launched a weekly TEDx Club for our G10, G11, and G12 students—and what a journey it’s turning out to be! Each week, a group of curious, passionate, and creative students come together with one shared goal: to master the art of delivering a powerful TEDx talk.
The club is all about unpacking what makes a TEDx talk not just informative, but unforgettable. We start with the big idea—that one message worth spreading. It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking or world-changing (though some of them might be!). The idea just needs to be honest, personal, and powerful enough to resonate with others.
From there, we explore how to hook an audience in from the very first sentence. Whether it’s through a surprising question, a personal story, or a dash of humour, students are learning that the opening line sets the tone for everything that follows.
We’ve also been diving into how to use visuals effectively—not just pretty slides, but clear, minimal designs that support the speaker’s message without distracting from it. And of course, body language takes centre stage. From posture and movement to facial expressions and hand gestures, students are experimenting with how to present themselves with confidence and authenticity.
Humour is a big part of our sessions too. Not because every talk needs to be funny—but because humour, when used well, can help a speaker connect more deeply with their audience. The students are learning how to find their own voice and make their message stick.
With the TEDx event now just three weeks away, the excitement is building. Many students are finalising their scripts and practising their delivery, turning their ideas into talks that are thoughtful, bold, and uniquely their own.
The TEDx Club is more than just a public speaking workshop—it’s a space where students learn to communicate with heart, connect with others, and realise that their voices matter.
We can’t wait to see them shine on stage.
